Spinal Stenosis

Home / Physiotherapy / Spinal Stenosis

Stenosis refers to a measurement of narrowing in the tunnels that contain our spinal nerves.

The Orthopaedic Therapy Clinic

This narrowing can be problematic as these nerves are the source of sensation and movement for our body. The goal of treatment at the Orthopaedic Therapy Clinic is to improve posture to reduce the strains on your low back and enhance your ability to walk.

Treatment consists of an assessment to determine which factors contribute to your symptoms. Imbalances in strength, flexibility or the presence of inflammation can increase the symptoms related to spinal stenosis.

Your treatment program will contain exercises to address these imbalances as well as modalities to address pain control. Treatment may include massage therapy, acupuncture or modalities such as ice, interferential current or ultrasound. As the acute stage resolves, exercises will be added to address core muscle weakness or restrictions in muscle length.
